Giang’s Egg Coffee captivates visitors

Considered one of the four pillars of Hanoi coffee including: “Nhan – Nhi – Di – Giang” Giang coffee is not only a familiar name to Hanoians but also known to international friends when visiting Hanoi.

When talking about Giang, we must mention egg coffee – Giang’s most famous drink that has become a must-try for many domestic and international tourists when visiting Hanoi. Anyone who comes to Giang without trying egg coffee has missed a unique flavor unique to Hanoi. It is not natural that Giang’s egg coffee was chosen as a reception drink during the US-North Korea Summit, there is a reason for it.

The oldest coffee shop in Hanoi, the cradle of egg coffee

For more than 70 years (since 1946), Giang has always been a famous coffee name in Hanoi, the shop is always crowded with customers.

Egg coffee is considered to have been born here by Mr. Nguyen Van Giang. Previously, when he worked as a bartender for the 5-star Sofitel Metropole Hanoi hotel, due to a lack of fresh milk, he thought of a way to use eggs as a substitute, from which egg coffee was born. The rich coffee combined with rich eggs was unexpectedly popular, Mr. Giang resigned from his job at the hotel, opened his own shop and built his own brand.

From just a small temporary location, Giang Coffee gradually moved to a new, more spacious shop at 90 Cau Go. In 1988 – 1989, when Mr. Giang passed away, his descendants separated and opened their own egg cafes.

Through many ups and downs, Giang egg coffee still exists and is maintained today. Every day, address 39 Nguyen Huu Huan welcomes countless visitors, both Vietnamese and foreign

The space at Giang is mainly on the 2nd floor, where customers sit and drink coffee on low tables and chairs, many of which have peeled off paint. On the yellow lime wall are a few simple decorative paintings, with no outstanding highlights, nor any type of music played.

The restaurant’s menu has many creativity such as egg rum, egg beer, egg cocoa, egg green beans… but egg coffee is still the main dish.

“Natural aroma” of Giang egg coffee is famous throughout the country and abroad

In Hanoi today, there are many places selling egg coffee with basic ingredients including coffee, egg yolks, condensed milk… but in terms of flavor, there is no place like Giang because of its know-how and experience. Mixing experience has been around for a long time. To make a delicious cup of egg coffee requires being really careful and meticulous because a little faster or a little slower will make the flavor different.

American television channel CNN once rated egg coffee as one of Hanoi’s impressive specialties. The newspaper prtimes.jp also reported on the event that Giang cafe is present in the Land of the Rising Sun with the first location located at 78-3 Yamashita Street, Naka District, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City. This newspaper also respectfully introduces that Giang coffee is “delicious egg coffee originating from Hanoi Old Quarter, Vietnam”.

During the US-North Korea Summit taking place in Vietnam, Giang egg coffee was chosen to serve more than 3,000 cups.

If you have lived in Hanoi and are familiar with the taste of egg coffee, but when you read the above, you feel a sense of pride, do you want to go to Giang and order a cup of egg coffee to enjoy?
